MAVA will be hosting a Senior Recognition Gathering on May 27th at 7:30pm in the lobby of MidAmerica Sportscenter.  We encourage all MAVA families and coaches to come congratulate and celebrate the accomplishments of our 2015 Senior Class. Ten of our seniors at MAVA will be continuing their volleyball careers at the collegiate level.  Leading up to this event, we will be sharing a little bit about one senior each day. And our next senior is Devon Rachel!

Best memory playing for MAVA:

When I was younger, all of the coaches used to tell us that there was a pool on the roof, and that we could have a pool party if we won AAU’s.

Advice for the younger MAVA players:

Play for yourself and your love of the sport.  It’ll carry you far.

From College of Charleston Athletics:

“A three year starter at Mercy Academy, Rachel helped guide her team to a 2012 Kentucky state runner-up finish. This past season, Rachel was the co-captain for a Mercy team ranked No. 1 in the nation by Prep Volleyball for the entire 2014 season and accumulated an impressive 75-3 mark over the past two seasons. Rachel capped off her prep career with a 2014 Kentucky State Championship and was named to both the All-State team and All-tournament team.  Equally as successful in her club exploits, Rachel finished fifth at the 2014 AAU’s and was named to the 2013 and 2014 all-region team. A member of the 2013 Phenom List, Rachel made the all-tournament team at the Berkeley Premier and finished fifth at the Cocoa Beach AAU sand qualifier. Rachel also played junior nationals in 2011, 2012 and 2013. The daughter of Tom and Dr. Elizabeth Rachel, Devon has one sister, Faith. Rachel plans on majoring Biology at The College

Coach Kepner on Rachel: ‘Devon is a hard working player who has an outstanding volleyball IQ.  Her experience as both an outside and a right side will be a big benefit next fall as we find ways to utilize her versatility.  She is used to playing at a high level in High School and Club and I feel that experience will help her make a smooth transition as she begins her college career.’”
